What should I do if I m not approved for travel?

If you receive a Travel Not Authorized response to your travel authorization application, but wish to continue with your travel plans, please visit The DOS Web site at www.travel.state.gov for additional information about applying for a visa. The denial of a travel authorization only prohibits travel under the Visa Waiver Program and is not a determination of eligibility for a visa to travel to the United States. In the event you are not approved for a travel authorization, no court shall have jurisdiction to review an eligibility determination under ESTA.

ESTA will be denied if I leave a mandatory field blank?

All required fields on the ESTA form must be completed.

If erroneous information is entered, this does not automatically result in a denial, but may require manual adjudication (hence additional time) before CBP provides a response to the applicant.

For this reason, it is recommended that you verify your data before making payment of your ESTA application to avoid any setbacks.

Note: The only fields to be updated are the email address and U.S. address.

Can I reapply if my application was denied?

If an ESTA is denied and the travelers circumstances have not changed, a new application will also be denied.

If an ESTA is denied and the travelers circumstances have changed, a new application can be submitted, but there are no guarantees the application will be approved.

Reapplying with false information in order to qualify for a travel authorization will make the traveler permanently ineligible for travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program.

My ESTA was denied and I need to travel immediately

If an ESTA application is denied, and your circumstances does not changed, a new application will be denied again.

You will need to contact the Embassy or Consulate in the country you stay. Unfortunately, the Department of State cannot guarantee next day appointments due to the varying demand for visas.

Information on the appointment process is available at the nearest consular section or on the State Department's website. Therefore, travelers are advised to apply for ESTA approval well in advance of proposed travel.
